Asian man waiting for NYC subway spit on, threatened in coronavirus hate crime

An Asian man waiting for the subway in Brooklyn was spit on by a crazed stranger who threatened to shoot him, blaming him for coronavirus, police said Wednesday.

The 26-year-old victim was confronted inside the Atlantic Ave./Barclays Center station about 11:25 a.m. Tuesday, cops said.

“You f---ing Chinese, spreading the coronavirus," the assailant said. “You people got the virus.”

He then spit in the victim’s face and mimicked having a gun, jamming his hand in his coat pocket and pointing his finger.

The victim alerted a nearby cop and a suspect was quickly arrested.

Nicholas Theodore, 19, was charged with aggravated harassment and menacing. He was given a desk appearance ticket and released. Theodore, who lives in Harlem, has no prior arrests, sources said.

The victim, who lives on the Lower East Side, did not seek medical treatment.

The shocking attack is the eighth coronavirus-inspired hate crime the NYPD has investigated since the start of the pandemic.
